Join a neighborhood group practicing Asahi outdoors on Saturdays! Asahi is a series of holistic mind-body exercises developed in Finland based on current medical guidelines for health. Movements and breathing are synchronized at a slow tempo to warm up, exercise, and relax the whole body. Suitable for people of all ages and physical conditions, Asahi strengthens the legs, develops balance, and increases metabolism. Whether you are an athlete seeking post-workout recovery, an individual looking for stress relief, or just want some exercise, Asahi is for you! Last Saturday, we practiced Asahi on a wonderful, spring morning. With the weather getting warmer, the class now begins at 9:00 am. This class is open to all and newbies are encouraged to join.

Come listen to BHV coffee and conversationalist Nancy Davidian talk about her trip to Antarctica. She flew from Washington to NY, where she picked up a flight to Buenos Aires. After a charter flight to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, a ship picked her and a friend up to travel to Antarctica. She was gone from Feb 27 until March 8. She hopes to have pictures but promises a fun adventure story. This event will be at the home of Judy Hanna.

Join us for a walking tour at the Nature Forward’s (formerly Audubon Society) peaceful 40-acre Woodend Nature Sanctuary (entrance at 8940 Jones Mill Road). The paved one-quarter mile path cutting through the sanctuary traverses meadow, forest stream and pond inhabitants. Participants will see first-hand how a well-managed nature preserve can create an environment in which a diversity of plants and wildlife can thrive and co-exist in harmony. Nature Forward has made available an informative brochure that describes different aspects of the sanctuary’s ecosystem at stops along the way.
Near the end of the walk, the group will take a break on benches at one of the preserve’s meeting alcoves to have an informal picnic, share observations and discuss possible links to our neighborhood environment initiatives. After the tour, participants can shop for nature-related books and gift items at the Woodend Nature Shop. Plan to bring their own snacks for the picnic break. Carpooling is encouraged. Melissa Crown and Bill Primosch will coordinate. The walk will be rescheduled if it rains.
