Our Story:

In spring 2014, 15 residents from Bradmoor and Huntington Terrace met to talk about a "Village" to connect our neighbors, to create an inter-generational community and to make our village a good place to live for a lifetime. Some communities in Montgomery County and the Washington metro area had already created successful villages. Our village dubbed, 'Bradley Hills Village' held a Community Meeting in June during which speakers from two existing Villages shared their experiences. We launched an assessment survey in which nearly all respondents expressed interest in increasing connections with their neighbors. Respondents indicated interest in receiving referrals to professional service providers, receiving volunteer assistance from neighbors and willingness to offer volunteer assistance. Given this substantial interest, the Exploratory Committee determined Bradley Hills Village would be a viable community organization and thus established a governance structure, bylaws, incorporated in the State of Maryland, and received nonprofit tax exempt status from the IRS. Liaisons with neighborhood associations were established. A variety of activities were organized: walking groups, a book discussion group, Voices in the Neighborhood educational programs, coffees, music and current events programming.

In February 2017, BHV held its first Annual Meeting featuring newly-elected US Representative Jamie Raskin as our speaker. We elected a Board of Directors and shared with the more than 100 neighbors present our accomplishments over the prior years. With the assistance of various grants, in 2017 we also expanded geographically and had a 100% membership renewal rate.

Currently, BHV continues to offer social and educational programming, including activities co-sponsored with other Villages and with other neighborhood organizations, a regular e-newsletter, volunteer provided home visits and home-based services, and volunteer transportation. We were awarded the Founders Award by WAVE in 2023.

In the summer of 2023, we created a new brochure and went door to door to over 1300 houses in our area to spread the word of our village. In this push, we grew to over 100 active household members and broadened our activities and outreach.
