About this event
Tree Walks
Would you know a White Pine from a Bald Cypress? A Black Walnut from a Black Locust? We hope to unravel these and many other mysteries as we get to know our arboreal neighbors over the coming year.
As part of the BHV Heritage Tree project we will explore a different part the village each month, focusing on a small group of (mostly native) tree species, aiming to learn both how to identify them and how they contribute to our local ecology. We will also be on the look-out for any particularly old or striking examples to add to our list of neighborhood Heritage Trees. All ages and knowledge levels are welcome as we learn together.
Our first walk, focused on our native evergreens in the Bradmoor neighborhood, will be offered on Wednesday, January 22 at 10:00 as part of Wednesday Walkers, and will be repeated on Sunday January 26 at 2:00 p.m. If interested please register but only sign up for one!. Details of where to meet, rain date, etc. will be sent to registrants a few days prior to the walk. Eager beavers should check out the paragraph below for a preview. Our February walk will look for other trees in Huntington Terrace that are easy to identify in winter (think River Birch, Beech, Elm and Sycamore). If you have suggestions for particular trees we should include on our walk, or if you would like to lead a tree walk later this year, please email pamlist@jbfam.org
